Custom Foam Packing for Unicase Gun & Rifle Hard Cases

Custom foam packing inside a Unicase hard case designed for secure gun and rifle storage and transport | Foamkart

Precision Protective Foam for Firearms Storage & Transport

Foamkart provides custom foam inserts for Unicase hard plastic gun and rifle cases, delivering maximum protection, secure positioning, and organized storage for firearms and tactical accessories.

Each foam insert is CNC precision-cut to match the exact dimensions of the firearm, ensuring zero movement inside the case and protecting the equipment from shock, vibration, moisture, and impact during transport and long-term storage.

What is the best way to protect guns and rifles during transport?

The safest method is using a hard waterproof gun case with custom-cut high-density foam that holds the firearm and accessories securely in place and absorbs impact.

Designed for Maximum Firearm Protection

Unicase hard plastic gun cases combined with custom foam inserts provide:

  • Impact and drop protection
  • Waterproof and dustproof storage
  • Vibration control during travel
  • Secure positioning of firearms

This prevents internal movement that can damage optics, barrels, or sensitive components.

Custom Layout for Complete Equipment Organization

Foam inserts can be designed to hold:

  • Rifles and carbines
  • Pistols and magazines
  • Scopes and optics
  • Ammunition boxes
  • Suppressors and tactical accessories
  • Cleaning kits

This ensures fast access, safe handling, and professional presentation.

FAQs

The gold standard for firearm storage is Closed-Cell Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE). Unlike standard open-cell “egg-crate” foam, XLPE does not absorb moisture from the air. This is critical for preventing rust and corrosion on the barrel and action during long-term storage in a vault or transport case.

No, provided you use high-quality EVA or XLPE closed-cell foam. These materials are chemically inert and non-porous. If your firearm is stored with a light coat of oil, the foam will not “wick” the oil away from the metal. Furthermore, common cleaning solvents and lubricants will not cause the foam to dissolve, swell, or lose its structural integrity.

Precision CNC routing creates a “static-lock” fit. Unlike “pick-and-pluck” foam which allows the rifle to shift slightly, custom foam supports the entire length of the chassis. This prevents the scope from touching the sides of the case or absorbing vibration, ensuring your rifle maintains its zero even after rough transit or being dropped.

You should never store a suppressor in foam immediately after a high-volume string of fire. While XLPE foam has a higher thermal resistance than cheap polyurethane, a “hot” suppressor (exceeding 150°C/300°F) can melt the foam. We recommend a dedicated “cool-down” period or using a heat-resistant suppressor cover before placing it back into its custom cutout.

Dual-contrast foam (e.g., a black top layer with a red or yellow base) is the ultimate tool for accountability. When a magazine, bolt carrier group, or suppressor is removed, the bright underlying color is exposed. This allows for an instant visual “clearing” of the kit, ensuring no gear is left behind at the range or in the field.

Yes. Factory “open-cell” foam acts like a sponge, trapping humidity against the metal surfaces of the gun. Foamkart’s closed-cell inserts create a moisture barrier. For maximum protection in humid climates, we recommend a custom cutout for a rechargeable silica desiccant canister to actively manage the micro-climate inside the case.

A perfect custom insert should include “access notches” or finger pockets at the grip and the forend. This allows you to safely and quickly lift the firearm out of the case without having to “pry” it from the foam, which can lead to accidental discharges or damage to delicate triggers and levers.

Some cheap, low-density foams release chemical vapors (off-gassing) that can tarnish blued steel or degrade wood finishes. Foamkart uses chemically stable, high-purity foams that are non-reactive, making them safe for everything from modern Cerakoted AR-15s to vintage blued revolvers and walnut stocks.

To ensure a perfect fit, we utilize a “maximum profile” measurement. You should measure the rifle with all attachments (bipod folded, optics, lights, and magazines) at their widest and longest points. Providing a straight-down, high-resolution photo alongside a ruler allows our CAD team to trace the exact silhouette of your specific setup.

Yes. In fact, custom foam is highly recommended by professional hunters and competitive shooters for air travel. The millimeter-perfect fit prevents the firearm from shifting during the “toss-and-stack” handling of airline baggage, which is the primary cause of cracked stocks and bent optic mounts during flight.

Absolutely. We can design modular foam “slugs”. If you have a multi-caliber platform (like a Sig Sauer MCX or an AI AXMC), we can create interchangeable foam modules that swap out within the master insert to fit different barrel lengths or magazine types while keeping the main chassis secure.

Because our foam is closed-cell and water-resistant, you can simply remove the insert from the case and wipe it down with a damp cloth or a mild soap solution. If it gets covered in carbon or range dust, you can use a vacuum with a brush attachment. The foam will not absorb the water, so it dries almost instantly.
